Grade I - EVS Subject Enrichment Activity

Nature Walk and Hands-on Identification

To bring the lesson to life, the class was then taken for an exhilarating nature walk on the school grounds. The children were encouraged to use their new knowledge to identify and observe the different types of plants they had just learned about. They pointed out tall trees, bushy shrubs, tiny herbs growing in the garden beds, and climbers clinging to the wall or fence. This real-world application strengthened their understanding and sparked a deep curiosity about the natural world.

Seed Classification and Art Integration
In the process of learning, they continued with an activity that required pre-planning and observation. The students proudly brought in seeds they had collected at home, which they then worked to classify based on the type of plant they would grow into: tree, shrub, herb, or climber. This practical classification exercise reinforced the key concepts of the chapter.

Finally, integrating art into science, the students participated in a creative session.

For an Art Integration activity, they were asked to draw their favourite seasonal flower. This allowed the children to express their creativity while paying close attention to the details of colour, shape, and structure of the beautiful flowering plants around them. The beautiful display of their artwork showcased both their understanding of plants and their artistic talent.
This multi-faceted approach, combining technology, props, outdoor observation, classification, and art, ensured a truly engaging and comprehensive learning experience for the chapter "Plants Around Us."
