Learning grammar became an exciting experience as students of Grade IV explored the world of Simple Present, Present Continuous, Simple Past and Past Continuous Tenses through a series of engaging activities.

The chapter began with an interactive recapitulation session, where the teacher asked thought-provoking questions to assess and activate the students’ prior knowledge. The concepts were then explained in a clear and engaging manner through PPT presentations and videos, helping students understand the usage and formation of each tense with ease.

To consolidate their learning, students enthusiastically participated in a creative Tense Caterpillar Activity. They designed colourful caterpillars with four circles, each representing one of the four tenses.

The learning became even more exciting with a Verb Card Activity. Students were invited to pick a verb card, read the verb aloud, and frame a sentence using it in the Simple Present Tense. They then transformed the same sentence into Present Continuous, Simple Past and Past Continuous Tenses, enabling them to observe and understand how the form of the verb and the structure of the sentence change according to the tense.

Through this engaging hands-on experience, students not only strengthened their understanding of tenses but also developed their speaking, reading, thinking and sentence-building skills. The activity transformed grammar into a joyful learning experience, making the concepts easier to understand, remember and apply!
